 The Sportsman's Charter

That sport is something done for the fun of doing it and that it ceases to be sport when it becomes a business only, something done for what there is in it;
That amateurism is something of the heart and spirit - not a matter of exact technical qualifications;
That good manners of sport are fundamentally important;
That the code must be strictly upheld;
That the whole structure of sport is not only preserved from the absurdity of undue importance, but is justified by a kind of romance which animates it, and by the positive virtues of courage, patience, good temper, and unselfishness which are demanded by the code;
That the exploitation of sport for profit alone kills the spirit and retains only the husk and semblance of the thing;
That the qualities of frankness, courage, and sincerity which mark the good sportsman in private life shall mark the discussions of his interests at a competition.

 Mini-Medal Rule Change
The Board of Directors has approved a rule change which allows exhibitors on ponies to compete in Mini-Medal.  Exhibitors are still restricted to entering only one medal class at a show and all other rules and restrictions of the medal divisions still apply.  In addition, the lines and fence heights will not be adjusted for ponies.  Refer to the Rules & Regulations page for more information.

 2008 Banquet - Save the Date
The 2008 GOHJA Year End Awards Banqet will be held on November 22, 2008 (the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving) at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary, 1501 International Parkway, Lake Mary, from 6:30 to midnight.

 2008 Membership Applications
The GOHJA Membership Applications for the 2008 show year are available now on the Membership Page.  Please note that the application is now two pages...be sure to print and send in BOTH pages.  Click HERE to download.

 Pony Measurements
All exhibitors of Ponies are reminded that in order to compete in the Pony divisions, the Pony must be measured by a GOHJA Show Steward or you must present your USEF Pony Measurement card to the Steward.  The Steward will then record the Pony on the GOHJA Pony List.  The existing Pony List has been added to the web site and can be found under the Rules & Regulations page.  If you have not had your Pony measured or presented your USEF Pony Card, please make arrangements to do so at your next show.

Stewards will be available at each GOHJA show to measure ponies on Friday from 4:30-5:00 and on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 in front of the Show Office.

 How and Why Points are Posted
It is the policy of GOHJA that final division results are not revealed until the Year End Awards Banquet.  The topic of changing our traditional philosophy on points posting has frequently been discussed at GOHJA Board Meetings, but it remains the opinion of the Board that we should continue to keep final points totals, and thus final division results, secret until the Year End Awards Banquet.

Traditionally, GOHJA posts or publishes points two times a year; usually once just before mid year and once just before year end.  This gives competitors a chance to check for any errors in their points.  Before the introduction of the web site, we published these postings in our newsletter "The Dotted Line".

The reason we only post point totals thru April for the first posting is because we have several divisions that only run for half the year...in other words their "season" is December thru May and another "season" starts in June and runs thru November.  So in effect, May is "Year End" for these divisions.  If we posted points thru May, everyone would know the placings in these divisions before our Year End Awards Banquet in November.  For this reason, we will also not post "year end" points all the way thru November...we'll post thru Sept or Oct instead.  Rest assured that all of your points are counted, including the May show, even if the point totals that are posted on the web site do not include the May numbers.

Anyone that would like to discuss this policy with the Board is more than welcome to attend the Board meetings.  They are typically held the second Monday of each month at Gleason's Grille restaurant in Goldenrod.

If you feel there is a error in your points, please send the specific discrepancy to rsecretary@gohja.org.  Blanket requests for all points for all shows will NOT be honored.  Please be respectful of Heather and her time.  She, as well as all of our volunteers, put in a tremendous amount of work to make sure that GOHJA is the best that it can be.

 Age Restricted Classes
GOHJA sanctions several divisions which are restricted entry based on the exhibitor's age on December 1st of the show year.  These divisions are:
     Walk-Trot - must be 12 or younger
     Short Stirrups - must be 12 or younger
     Long Stirrups - must be 13 or older
     Mini Medal - must be 14 or younger
     Medal - must be 15 or older
     Equitation - divided into four divisions based on age:
          11 & younger, 12-14, 15-17 and 18&older (adult)
In addition, the Pony Hunter divisions (not Children's Pony) and the Pony Medal have age restrictions based on the height of the pony as follows:
     Small Ponies - 12 or younger
     Medium Ponies - 14 or younger
     Large Ponies - 17 or younger (any Junior)
When entering classes, please check the age restrictions and make sure you are eligible to show in that class.  Exhibitors who show in classes for which they are not eligible will have all points revoked and can be required to return all prizes and ribbons won.  Habitual offenders will have charges filed against them with the Hearings Committee.
